It’s not all that often that a successful IMSA racing car hits the used car market but that’s exactly what we have here.
This 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo IMSA GTO recently came across our radar after being listed up for sale through Bring A Trailer. It has an interesting history and will probably be purchased by a real connoisseur of classic racing cars.

This is one of just seven factory-supported Z32 race cars constructed by Clayton Cunningham Racing for IMSA GTO competition. It features carbon fiber bodywork wrapped around a chromoly tubular spaceframe and has the original red, white, and blue livery it raced with. It sits on 18-inch centerlock wheels with Goodyear Eagle slicks measuring 25.5×12 inches at the front and 28.5×14.5 inches at the rear.
The listing reveals that the car, chassis 004, secured its first victory at the 1990 Del Mar 1 Hour. The following year, Steven Millen finished second in the Sebring 12 Hours. Throughout 1991, the car secured a host of race victories, including at the Miami 1 Hour, Mosport 300 km, New Orleans 1 Hour, Portland 1hr 30 m, and Road America 200 km. It also won the Watkins Glen 500 km.
Powering the car is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with carbon fiber intakes, two intercoolers, a dry-sump lubrication system, NPTI electronic fuel injection, and an aluminum radiator that’s coupled to a five-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The engine is said to have logged four hours of use since being overhauled by a previous owner.
