Polestar has released a beta version of its video streaming app. The service allows Polestar 2 owners to watch streaming news while they charge—or just get away from the kids for a bit.
The app will bring web-based streaming services onto the electric vehicle’s 11-inch infotainment screen. So far, that’s largely limited to news services.
For now, that means streams from SVT in Sweden, TV2 in Norway, and GOPlay and RTBF in Belgium. European market owners will also receive feeds from BBC Ideas, Al Jazeera English, and Germany’s tagesschau.

As you might expect, the beta app is still relatively early in its development. Polestar hopes to gain insight from its release and improve the app over time. It also plans to widen access to streaming channels and it’s conceivable that any streaming service could be hosted on the app.
“We have released the new Polestar video app in beta form so that our customers can start to enjoy the benefits of in-car video streaming sooner rather than later,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “We will receive feedback – both good and bad – that will help to refine the app based on thousands of use cases, rather than a small, defined set. We will also continue to add channels in the future, which gives the app huge growth potential since it is realistically able to integrate any web-based streams.”
As is perhaps wise, the streaming app is only available for use when the car is not in motion. If you’re watching something, though, and you put the car in drive, the sound can continue to play. That allows passengers to continue and is probably sufficient if you’re watching the news.
