While it’s good to be king, being a member of the Ford family isn’t too shabby.
Besides job security and the ability to continually punish Lions fans, there are a handful of other perks. That’s certainly the case with this 1966 Mustang which was created for CEO Henry Ford II.
Set to be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson next month, the model features a unique Raven Black paint job with a “specialized high-gloss sheen.” The convertible also boasts a special white leather top which is power retractable.

Other notable highlights include grille-mounted fog lights, a dual exhaust system, side stripes and “specially styled steel wheels.” Speaking of special touches, the doors are adorned with custom “HF II” badges.
While the tan leather interior doesn’t look too special at first glance, the upholstery wasn’t available on the standard Mustang and the front seats were sourced from the 1967 Mercury Cougar. The listing also says the “car reportedly served as a Ford Design Center prototype for styling that would later be used in some of the interior details, including door panels, of the 1968 Cougar.”
Putting that aside, the Mustang comes equipped with an AM/8-track stereo system as well as a steering wheel, keys and seat belt buckles with “HF II” badging.
A 4.7-liter K-code V8 engine resides under the hood, and features a solid-lifter camshaft, heavy-duty valve springs, a high-flow exhaust manifold and a four-barrel carburetor. This enables it to produce 271 hp (202 kW / 275 PS).
Besides the powerful V8, the car has a four-speed manual transmission and 3.89:1 rear gearing. Other performance features include power steering, power front discs and a quicker steering ratio than what was offered on the standard Mustang GT.
The convertible has spent most of its life in France and is being sold without reserve. It comes with documentation including a letter from Ford France’s Director of Communication stating, “The Ford Mustang serial number 6F08K285715 was the vehicle commissioned by Ford for Henry Ford II during his stays in France. It benefited from a special finish, paint and leather upholstery.”
