Right on schedule, Bugatti’s homage to the EB110, the Centodieci, has been caught on-track testing.

Limited to just ten units, the Centodieci uses the same 8.0-liter W16 as the rest of the Chiron lineup but squeezes more power out of it. Rated at 1,578 hp (1,176 kW / 1,600 PS), it’s 99 horses (74 kW / 100 PS) more powerful than a standard Chiron.

It also weighs 44 lbs (20 kg) less than the standard Bug thanks to a lightweight windshield wiper and carbon fiber stabilizers, among others. That will mean a 0-62 mph time of 2.4 seconds and a top speed of 236 mph.

The most visible change, though, is the retro bodywork that was inspired by, but not ripped off from, the Bugatti EB110 from the ’90s.

“Transporting this classic look into the new millennium without copying it was technically complex, to say the least, said Achim Anscheidy, Bugatti’s design director when the car was unveiled in 2019. “We had to create a new way of combining the complex aerothermal requirements of the underlying Chiron technology with a completely different aesthetic appearance.”

Bugatti announced in February that its development car was being run on the simulator and checked meticulously for quality.

“I was hugely looking forward to the first prototype of the Centodieci”, said Andre Kullig, technical project manager for limited-run projects. “With the newly designed body, there are changes in many areas that we had to simulate using special computer programs. Based on the data, we were able to establish a basic set-up as a starting point for series development and the first prototype.”

At the time, the company said that the car would be ready for track testing in the next few months and, well, here we are. This latest milestone means that the car is one step closer to production and with deliveries set to start in early 2022, that’s good news for the people who bought these up.

Despite its €8 million ($9.7 million USD), all ten of these limited-edition models have been sold.
