Genesis introduced the G70 Shooting Brake earlier today and noted the model was “designed with European customers in mind.”

That being said, we asked Genesis about the possibility of bringing the wagon to the United States.

Unfortunately, a spokesperson told us “the upcoming G70 Shooting Brake … will not be offered in North America at this time.” While that does leave the door slightly open, the chances of seeing the wagon come stateside seem remarkably slim.

A number of people will likely be disappointed, but the spokesperson noted “With the launch of a dynamic GV70 SUV, a newly redesigned G70 sport sedan, and electrification on the horizon, Genesis is looking forward to bringing a number of exciting new models to the North American market this year.”

It’s hard to argue with Genesis’ logic as Americans have shown a clear preference for crossovers. In March, the company sold 1,636 GV80s which is more than the combined sales of the G70 (769), G80 (443) and G90 (158).

The 2022 GV70 should continue that momentum when it arrives in the United States this summer. The company hasn’t revealed pricing information, but the entry-level crossover will come nicely equipped with LED headlights, a hands-free power liftgate and 18-inch alloy wheels. Buyers will also find leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, a 14.5-inch infotainment system, and driver assistance systems such as Highway Driving Assist and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go.

While US specifications remain unconfirmed, the Korean-spec GV70 features a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 311 lb-ft (422 Nm) of torque. Customers can also opt for a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 developing 375 hp (279 kW / 380 PS) and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque.
