Powerful vehicles doing dyno runs can be exciting to view. Unfortunately for the driver of this truck, things went horribly wrong.
The incident took place at Ultimate Callout Challenge (UCC) 2021, an event that features various power-based competitions such as drag racing, sled pulls, a burnout pit and, of course, dyno runs.
A Ram pickup first began its dyno run with a series of choppy throttle inputs, the truck jerking back and forth on its platform. The driver then began his final pull with much smoother inputs. The revs kept climbing, the turbocharger continued spooling, and lots of black smoke billowed from the hood-exit exhaust.

Moments later, the hood burst open and the engine erupted into a ball of flames, resulting in the on-site crew frantically rushing to put out the fire as quickly as possible. The driver smartly jumped out of his vehicle and off the platform. The explosion even sent pistons flying into the grandstands, and one lucky spectator seems to have walked away with a souvenir after picking one up with a pair of pliers.
Thankfully it appears no one was hurt. In light of that fact, the entire crowd could be heard chanting and cheering after the ordeal was over. Even the driver, who just blew up his engine, took a celebratory bow.
