No matter what Volvo you buy, it’ll be a Top Safety Pick + thanks to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s recent decision to award the Volvo XC40 Recharge with the rating.

The first small electric vehicle to earn the safety rating, the Volvo XC40 Recharge joins Volvo’s nine vehicles that were awarded Top Safety Picks Plus in February, and the five more that earned the accolade in March.

It also adds to Volvo’s record for most Top Safety Pick Plus awards in one year. The brand, known for safety, has earned more of the awards in one year than any other brand since the IIHS started awarding it to cars in 2013.

To earn the Top Safety Pick Plus, a car must have more than just excellent crash tests. A car must also have standard advanced safety tech like collision warnings.

Long an industry innovator, Volvo’s vision is that no one will be seriously injured or killed in or by one of its vehicles.

“Regardless of body style, engine or trim, every Volvo offers innovative protection in a crash.” said Anders Gustafsson, CEO of Volvo Car USA. “We are proud that IIHS has recognized this by awarding a Top Safety Pick Plus to every vehicle we produce today. No other company has been awarded this honor across all carlines.”
