The BMW X7 hasn’t been on the market all that long and already, the German car manufacturer is hard at work developing a facelifted model.
Recently spied on the Nurburgring for the first time, this X7 prototype sports black and white camouflage across its front and rear fascias. Of course, buyers will never take their X7s to the track but the fearsome circuit does allow BMW to test out vital components of the SUV.

Differences between the front fascia of this prototype and the outgoing X7 are quite obvious, despite the camouflage. This prototype appears to be rocking a set of new headlights and while these lights don’t appear to be production-ready units, you’ll no doubt notice that they are positioned much lower down on the fascia than the current model. It’s difficult to know what changes have been made to the front grille but it certainly doesn’t appear any smaller.
Alterations made to the rear appear to be more minor and will probably be limited to new LED taillights graphics and a tweaked bumper.
Our spy photographers haven’t yet had the opportunity to see the interior of the new X7 but we don’t expect to see many changes, other than perhaps some software updates to the infotainment system. BMW may also tweak the trim levels that it offers for the X7.
No powertrain alterations are expected. As such, the U.S. market should still be offered the X7 in 335 hp 3.0-liter inline-six xDrive40i and 523 hp 4.4-liter V8 M50i guises. Alpina will no doubt also launch a facelifted version of the XB7 after the veil is lifted on the regular X7.
