Genesis’ G90 was only just refreshed last year; however, it would seem that the Korean luxury brand isn’t one to rest on its laurels, with a new version of their flagship sedan caught testing in Germany.

Spied for the second time on the home soil of its main competitors, the next G90 will look to offer a refreshed take on the luxury car genre, seeking to keep up with or beat out the latest S-Class. Well into the development cycle, the G90 won’t take too long to be revealed as, if Hyundai’s development plan is accurate, the premium sedan is scheduled to be released later this year.

The G90 may even be one of the first models to make an appearance in Europe, with Genesis being rolled out in the UK, Germany, and Switzerland—however, the G90 wasn’t mentioned as part of the brand’s fresh European onslaught.

Testers this time around seem to have gotten a little more creative with the camouflage, using more cladding to mask the grille and headlights while also adding a camo wrap to the exposed panels of the prototype.

Still visible, though, is the rather large latticed grille up front, with the telling Genesis “V” poking through the outline of the black plastic sheeting. Also evident are the split-level headlights, a feature that all modern Genesis cars sport for their front and rear lights.

Perhaps the most striking features are the intricately designed wheels, featuring an almost tree-branch-like design that certainly sets the G90 apart.

Moving further back, the glasshouse is divided into four parts, with a sliver of borderless quarter glass sitting just behind the break for the rear door. At the back, we find (fake, but with visible piping) exhaust exits with a design similar to that of the current G90, but this would indicate that the 2022 model will sport an internal combustion engine while an EV is perhaps in the works for a later release.

Engine-wise, we expect Hyundai to retire the top-flight 5.0 V8, replacing it with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6.

The 2022 Genesis G90 will likely be unveiled in its home market of Korea before the end of the year, ahead of a US and possible European launch.
