This C5 Corvette Reverse Restomod May Look A Bit Off, But Has A Supercharged V8 And Three Pedals

Nowadays, it’s not uncommon to see restomod builds in which an old car is fitted with modern amenities to get the best of both worlds. However, in the case of this C5 Corvette, the process was essentially done in reverse, as it started with modern running gear, then received the styling of a C2 Corvette.

The backdated 2004 Corvette Z06 is listed for sale on eBay for just under $100,000 through a group called GT Auto Lounge. The odometer only reads 18,685 miles (30,071 km), which is impressive for a 17-year-old car, but that’s not what makes this Corvette stand out.

That award would have to go to the styling. While you can certainly tell it’s meant to resemble a C2, we can’t help but feel something’s a bit wrong. What throws it off the most seems to be the greenhouse, which remains unchanged from the C5 underneath, clashing with the retro aesthetics and overall just looking too small for the rest of the car. Other than that, though, the “conversion” as a whole is very comprehensive and looks to be very professionally executed, even going so far as to add things like the C2-style taillights and “pop-up” headlights.

The interior appears to be completely original, which is strange given the lengths gone to change the exterior. Nevertheless, the black and red leather works well with the color scheme of the car, and the striated seat centers are pretty in keeping with the rest of the retro motifs.

Seeing as it’s a Z06, this car already features the potent LS6 5.7-liter V8 making 405 hp (411 PS / 302 kW) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque, and on top of that, it adds a Magnuson supercharger kit. There’s no word on exactly how much power it’s making, but according to Magnuson, that supercharger should be good for about 120 extra hp and 120 extra lb-ft of torque, bringing the total up to 525 hp (532 PS / 391 kW) and 520 lb-ft (705 Nm) of torque. That power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, and we’d consider the whole powertrain as this car’s saving grace.
