Fans of the ’80s cult T.V. show Knight Rider were in for a treat when David Hasselhoff made an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show. The Hoff was part of Clarkson’s “DRIVE-INterview” segment, where guests maintain social distancing by remaining in their cars during the chat. The innovative addition to The Kelly Clarkson Show has seen previous interviewees turn up in some fascinating metal, including Jay Leno in a 1970 Dodge Challenger, and Kurt Busch in one of his former competition cars.
Naturally, Hasselhoff turned up in K.I.T.T, albeit what is likely a replica, since genuine screen-used cars are few and far between. To match the Trans Am, Clarkson turned up in a classic Pontiac.
Hasselhoff’s own K.I.T.T., which was also a replica and not used in the original series, recently sold for $300,000, according to the Live Auctioneers listing.
Speaking on Knight Rider’s relevance, Hasselhoff says that the tech of today is precisely what the team behind the show had envisaged some forty years ago. “The cars talk, the cars drive themselves, the cars park,” says Hasselhoff. He goes on to reminisce how the production crew didn’t have access to CGI for stunts and offers to teach Clarkson how to do a J-turn in five minutes.

He goes on to confirm that there is a reboot in the making — although it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve heard this news. The last proper go at a reboot was canceled by N.B.C. after just one season, with Hasselhoff himself only making a cameo in the pilot episode.
Back in 2014, there were rumors that a possible movie was on the cards, starring John Cena and Kevin Hart in a comedic interpretation of the genre. Although the spoof appears to have since fizzled out, latest reports indicate a possible reboot is in the works, with James Wan, who directed Furious 7, in the driving seat. Hasselhoff confirmed in January, speaking to Consequence Film, that screenwriter T.J. Fixman was on board, but that he didn’t know if he would return to play the character of Michael Knight.
