The owner of a Genesis G70 has shared a video with us in which he claims shows a mechanic from a local dealership of the brand in Augusta, Georgia, going for a joy ride in the sports sedan.
The video starts off by showing the mechanic reversing the G70 off a shop lift before he stops to tell a co-worker that he is “gonna go test drive this mother f***er,” to which is co-worker responds “Oh yeah, have fun with that!” The mechanic leaves the servicing area before pulling out onto the street.
He initially accelerates away from the dealership at moderate speeds and after taking a right-hand turn, hits the throttle a little harder, testing out the acceleration abilities of the car. He revs it through the gears and looks to be driving faster than the 45 mph speed limit, although it’s impossible to say for sure with no speed readout on the dashcam.

Writing to CarScoops, the owner of the G70 claims that the mechanic wasn’t wearing a seatbelt during the test drive and based on the beeping sound that can be heard throughout the video, it appears to be true. At one stage he receives a phone call from another employee and suggests “this b*ch* got nitrous and sh*t,” presumably because he was so impressed by its performance.
Soon after, the mechanic pulls back into the dealership, stating that he “likes this little mother****er.”
The G70 owner claims he spoke with a manager at the dealership after re-watching the video and says that the mechanic was fired “on the spot” for his little joyride. We have reached out to the dealership and will update this story if and when we hear back.
Correction: We mistakenly assumed the G70 was powered by the 3.3L V6 turbo engine. Article has been rectified to reflect that information. The owner also claimed in a subsequent email that the employee was not fired.
