After revealing that the entirely new 2022 Civic Hatchback will get a six-speed manual transmission, Honda Canada had some disappointing news for Twitter.
“There will only be a Sedan version of the Si,” the Honda subsidiary told Twitter user @fz07rider in a Tweet first noticed by the Civic XI forum.

Although the comment led to some disappointment in the replies from fans of the higher-performance Civic trim, the move does not necessarily mean that the same will be true for America. While the two markets’ product lineups tend to be similar, some differences occasionally occur. When CarScoops asked, a Honda USA spokesperson was non-committal about the matter.
“Honda is still very much committed to Civic performance enthusiasts and as we noted at the debut of the Civic Sedan, we’ll have Si and Type R variants of the new 11th-generation Civic, including an Si Sedan,” the spokesperson told us. “I can’t comment further about specifics at this point.”
Interestingly, the Civic Sedan and the Civic Hatchback are being made in different plants. The Sedan is being built in Alliston, Ontario, Canada, while the Hatchback is being built in Greensburg, Indiana. Whether or not the American plant gets any higher-power trims will be interesting to see.
A PowerPoint presentation that leaked to the Civic XI forum earlier this month suggests that we won’t have to wait too long before we know for sure. The supposed product roadmap suggests that the new model will be revealed in October of this year.
The current Civic Si features a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 205 hp (207 PS/152 kW) and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) of torque. It’s available in both Coupe and Sedan body styles but with the current industry trend away from cars towards crossover, it wouldn’t be unusual to hear that Honda is simplifying its lineup.
Prices for the new, 11th-gen Civic Sedan will start at $22,695 (with destination fee) a marginal increase over the outgoing model. Although prices for the new Hatchback haven’t been announced yet, they’re expected to start at less than $20,000.
