The Civic Type R Limited Edition has just launched in Australia and to celebrate its unveiling, Honda has given its local Civic Type R TCR race car a special livery.

The Civic Type R competes in the local TCR Australia Series and usually rocks a ‘Racing Blue’ livery. However, it now has a ‘Sunlight Yellow’ livery that takes inspiration from the color of the road-going Civic Type R Limited Edition.

“We all loved the blue look on our Honda Civic Type R TCR, but the new yellow livery is something else,” driver of the race car, Tony D’Alberto said in a statement. “It’s really cool to celebrate the arrival of the Civic Type R Limited Edition by using my race car to showcase the new model. It shows just how much Honda values its performance and racing heritage.”

Honda is building just 1,020 examples of the Civic Type R Limited Edition worldwide and Australia will get just 20 units. Demand for the model far outstripped supply so a lottery was held to see who the owners would be.

Local pricing for the Civic Type R Limited Edition starts at AU$70,000 (US$54,172) drive away, which is roughly AU$12,000 (US$9,286) more than a standard model.

The car benefits from a host of modifications. For example, it went on a diet with Honda engineers removing 28 lbs (12.7 kg) of sound deadening material and ditching the cargo cover, rear heater ducts, and rear wiper mechanism. In addition, it sits on a set of lightweight BBS wheels, while Honda also reprogrammed the active dampers and also updated the power steering system.

Power continues to come courtesy of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 306 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.
