Ford used the Shanghai Auto Show to introduce the new Evos crossover, and it was expected to preview a new Fusion and Mondeo replacement for the United States and Europe.
However, Ford quickly shot down that idea. In particular, Ford North America’s Product Communications Director, Mike Levine, tweeted the “Evos is for customers in China only. There are no current plans to offer it elsewhere.”
That temporarily halted the rumor mill, but it’s starting back up again as spy photographers have caught what appears to be a modified Evos undergoing testing in Europe. While the prototype is heavily camouflaged, it features a familiar front fascia with a lightly modified bumper.

Bigger changes occur further back as this prototype has significantly less ground clearance than China’s Evos. More importantly, the model adopts a flatter beltline, unique rear doors and smaller rear pillars.
As a result, this model is unique while also being reminiscent of the Evos. It’s also worth mentioning this isn’t a production version of the Lincoln Zephyr Reflection concept as this prototype has previously been spotted with an undisguised front end showing a cut out for Ford’s Blue Oval.
Given all of this, it appears Ford wasn’t kidding when they said the Evos will be a China-only affair. However, it seems they neglected to mention a modified variant – or a model with vaguely reminiscent styling – is coming to Europe and, potentially, the United States.
