After a series of cryptic teasers from the automaker, Jeep has unveiled the Xtreme Recon Package for the Wrangler Wrangler Rubicon 4-door and Rubicon 392 as a way to take the fight to Ford‘s Sasquatch Package for the Bronco.

As such, it features 35-inch (88.9 cm) Bridgestone KO2 all-terrain tires for better approach, departure, and breakover angles. And it pays off, as they successfully increase the Wrangler’s approach angle to 47.4 degrees, departure angle to 40.4 degrees, breakover angle to 26.7 degrees, ground clearance to 12.9 inches (32.8 cm), and water fording depth to 33.6 inches (85.3 cm).

The package also includes 17 x 8-inch (43.2 x 20.3 cm) beadlock-capable wheels, a 1.5-inch (3.8 cm) factory suspension lift with uniquely tuned shocks, and a 4.56:1 axle ratio, all in the name of better off-roading. Additionally, a 4.88:1 axle ratio will be available later this year that, when paired with the 6-speed manual transmission, affords the Wrangler with an industry-first 100:1 crawl ratio.

Compared to a Bronco with the Sasquatch Package equipped, the Wrangler Xtreme Recon has 4.2 more degrees of approach, 3.7 more degrees of departure, 0.4 more degrees of breakover, a 1.4-inch (3.6 cm) taller ride height, and a 0.1-inch (0.3 cm) higher water fording depth. On paper, this should make the Wrangler Xtreme Rubicon more capable then the Bronco Sasquatch, but until we see a side-by-side comparison, nothing’s set in stone. The one advantage the Sasquatch Package does have, though, is that it can be equipped on any Bronco trim, not just the top ones.

The Xtreme Recon Package is currently available to order, and production will begin in August at Jeep’s Toledo Assembly Plant.
