Kia America originally planned to open reservations for the EV6 First Edition on June 3rd, but “technical difficulties” prevented that from happening.
As a result, the order book will now open on June 8th at 10 am PST. At that time, interested customers will be able to secure one of the 1,500 EV6 First Editions for a refundable deposit of $100.
Kia said they switched the day to provide “all potential owners an equal chance to be the first to experience the EV6.” Kia America vice president of marketing, Russell Wager, went on to explain “Fairness is a fundamental component of our corporate culture, and therefore we thought best to suspend the original process, enhance the reservation procedure, and then reopen this exclusive opportunity to the many folks who had been in line and excited to join us on this journey.”
The company is expecting the First Editions to sell out quickly as early demand has been “overwhelming.” Given the expected surge in website traffic, Kia has improved bandwidth to “handle expanded access and traffic.”

The $58,500 EV6 First Edition features a 77.4 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that produces a combined output of 320 hp (239 kW / 324 PS) and 446 lb-ft (605 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 5.1 seconds and travel approximately 265 miles (426 km) on a single charge.
More importantly, the First Editions offer a handful of special touches including an Urban Yellow exterior, dark green seats, an individually numbered badge and illuminated “First Edition” door sill plates. The model also comes equipped with a sunroof, an augmented reality head-up display and remote smart parking assist. Other niceties include a 14-speaker Meridian audio system, heated front and rear seats as well as 20-inch alloy wheels. Buyers will also receive a “gift” in the form of an Apple Watch, charging credits or a home charging station.
Unfortunately, customers have a wait ahead of them as the first deliveries aren’t scheduled to begin until the first quarter of 2022.
