A guy driving a BMW 3-Series in the U.S. managed to lock himself outside the sedan while it was in reverse and digging itself a hole on a beach.
This clip was filmed in East Hampton, New York and shows the man standing helplessly behind the 3-Series while appearing to be making a call through his smartwatch.
So, how did the driver manage to get himself in this rather unfortunate situation? It’s impossible to say for sure but the most likely explanation is that he got stuck while trying to reverse off the sand before stepping out of the car to assess the situation and closing the door behind him. The car must have then automatically locked the doors, leaving him helpless.

A look at the 3-Series shows all four wheels spinning, confirming that it has all-wheel drive. However, the all-wheel drive system clearly didn’t help the driver in the sand, nor did the road tires that it is sitting on.
The YouTube video makes no mention as to what happened when the individual filming stopped recording. A nice person would have tried to lend their assistance to the driver but actually freeing the car from the hole it dug itself would have been a very bad idea as it would have then be free to reverse under its own power.
