Maserati recently revealed its collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara, a celebrated cultural trendsetter and owner of the Fragment brand.
The partnership could be seen as unusual for the Italian sports car maker but is said to create a symphony of music and machine that results in automotive brilliance. In less spin-doctor-y speak, the outcome is two special edition Ghibli sports sedans in Granlusso trim, limited to just 175 cars in total.
Hiroshi Fujiwara was a well-known icon and pioneer of the streetwear culture in Tokyo back in the 1980s. He influenced the Japanese music industry and was one of the very first DJs to introduce hip-hop to the country. The collaboration—dubbed ‘Maserati Meets Fragment’combines Italian design and Japanese perfection and the theme of the Fragment badged cars appears to center more around the specific design elements.

Revealed at an exclusive global premiere in Tokyo, the two machines on offer are called the Operanera and Operabianca, the former cloaked in a glossy/opaque black and the latter in a glossy white and opaque black. There’s a sense of uniformity in the colors, which extends to the wheels and door handles. Each of the 175 cars will feature matte back wheels, a unique grille, and special badging. The interior sports premium leather and Alcantara combined with silver stitching and dark blue seatbelts.
Making this project a reality was the team behind the Maserati Fuoriserie customization program, which specializes in creating distinctive Maseratis. The service allows customers to create a design that is exclusive and tailor-made to their requirements. The car will be launched along with a capsule collection available via Maserati’s Official channels and will include items designed together with Hiroshi Fujiwara.
