A video has emerged showing the moment a massive sinkhole opens up and swallows vehicles at a parking lot in Jerusalem.
Looking like something out of a disaster movie, the sinkhole can be seen suddenly collapsing at the parking lot of the city’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center. A white hatchback immediately falls into the sinkhole and as it continues to grow, two other vehicles fall into it as well.
It didn’t take long before local authorities showed up to the scene and quickly determined that no one was in any of the vehicles when they fell into the sinkhole.

The cause is still to be determined, but it is reported that tunnels are being dug nearby and this may have played a role. It is likely that the three vehicles that fell into the hole will be declared write-offs. For the sake of the owners, we hope their insurance companies will cover a natural disaster like this.
While you have very little chance of falling into a sinkhole when you’re parked or driving along a road, they do open up occasionally. Unfortunately, they can also kill or injure people. In early 2017, a woman in the U.S. was driving when the road beneath her opened up. Her minivan fell 20 feet and landed on its roof. The woman suffered a traumatic brain injury and in December 2019, was awarded up to $4 million in compensation from the Los Angeles City Council.
