The very first Formula 1 car driven in competition by the legendary Michael Schumacher is up for sale in the UK.
This very Jordan 191 – Ford Cosworth HB was driven by Schumacher at the Belgian Grand Prix in 1991, his first-ever race. It is one of just seven units built and one of only two that were driven by Schumacher. It was also raced by Andrea De Cesaris and Alex Zanardi.

Speedmastercars notes that this Jordan was first driven by De Cesaris at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 1991 where he qualified 16th and ultimately finished in 7th. Two weeks later, Schumacher made his debut behind the wheel of the car. It didn’t take long for Schumacher to start going faster than De Cesaris during the Belgian race weekend despite driving De Cesaris’ car. Schumacher started the race in 7th but had to retire on the first lap because of a clutch problem.
So impressed with Schumacher’s performance in his first race weekend, Flavio Briatore signed him for the Benetton F1 team the following week.
After the 1991 season, the car in question was sold to a Belgian car collector until it was purchased in 2005. In the years since, the car has made appearances at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on multiple occasions and remains in working condition. It was most recently featured at the Masters Historic Race Weekend at Donington Park earlier this year.
