BMW announced its first-ever collaboration with Marvel Studios for the upcoming film “Black Widow” starring Scarlett Johansson. The film premieres on July 9 with two BMW vehicles on the set – the X3 and the 2 Series Gran Coupé.
It seems that the timing was less than ideal for the Bavarian firm as the car used in the action shots is a pre-facelifted BMW X3 M40i. We guess that the updated model which premiered a few weeks ago wasn’t ready at the time of the shooting, so BMW used it only in the promotional material.

In the official behind-the-scenes trailer, the X3 appears in a chase sequence where it came under heavy fire, lost a door, crashed in parked cars, performed 360-degree powerslides, exploded, and did a backflip before landing upside down on a tank (learn more here). We haven’t seen the shots of the black 2 Series Gran Coupé yet but we hear this one left with considerably less damage on the bodywork.
After the shooting, both vehicles – or what was left of them – traveled from the set to BMW Welt in order to be displayed. If you don’t live in Germany but you still want to have a closer look at the remains of Black Widow’s X3, you can check out a photorealistic 3D representation in more than 2,000 BMW dealerships worldwide, as part of the Emotional Virtual Experience.
In Marvel’s latest spy thriller, the main character Natasha Romanoff faces a dangerous conspiracy tied to her past. This is a prequel to Avenger films so we will get to know more about Black Widow’s earlier life.
