Prince Charles Takes A Trip To Mini’s Oxford Factory

Mini is one of the UK’s most iconic companies and none other than Prince Charles recently made a visit to the automaker’s Oxford plant.

At the height of Brexit, BMW repeatedly warned the UK government that it may be forced to leave the country and build its vehicles overseas. Fortunately, all is now well within Mini and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales had the exclusive opportunity to tour the Oxford plant and to drive a Mini Electric.

Mini is particularly proud of how it has managed to incorporate manufacturing of the Mini Electric into the same production line as combustion engine Mini models, making it the first BMW Group plant to build both ICE and EVs on the same production line. Mini says that its electric hatchback has been so warmly received that production will double in 2021.

Prince Charles had the chance to drive a Mini Electric off the production line during his visit, no doubt boosting the value of that particular car.

“It was an absolute honour and pleasure to welcome HRH The Prince of Wales to the heart of the MINI brand here in Oxford and we were delighted that he could join us to mark this important manufacturing milestone,” managing director of the factory Peter Weber said. “Over the past twenty years, the commitment and passion of our associates, nearly a quarter of whom were with us when the first car rolled off the line in 2001, has helped to strengthen MINI’s reputation around the world. It’s fantastic for this special celebration to have been be recognized with such a memorable royal visit. It was a real highlight to see His Royal Highness drive one of our MINI Electrics off the production line today.”
