A rare Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1 Alonso Edition has been badly damaged after a crash near Munich, Germany.

Ferrari only ever built 40 examples of the 599 GTB 60F1 and it is so rare that you would be forgiven for not even known it existed. The image of the crashed car was shared to Instagram by prolific car buyer muc.collector who used to own this very car.

Details about the incident aren’t known but this image shows that it was crashed on a rain-soaked road. It has suffered serious damage to the front end and passenger side and could very well be deemed a write-off.

The most obvious explanation behind the damage is that the driver of the Ferrari lost control in the wet conditions and slammed into one of the crash barriers. However, it is entirely possible that other vehicles were involved in the crash, as an Audi can be seen in the background. The driver wasn’t injured in the crash, according to muc.collector.

The 599 GTB 60F1 is one of the lesser-known variants of the 599. It was announced in December 2011 and launched to celebrate 60 years of Ferrari victories in Formula 1, from Froilán González’s win at Silverstone in 1951 through to Fernando Alonso’s win at Silverstone in 2011. It is based on the 599 HGTE which means it has stiffer suspension, shorter springs, and stiffer anti-roll bars than standard model. Ferrari also equipped it with unique forged alloy wheels and a paint scheme inspired by the 150° Italia that Ferrari used during the 2011 Formula 1 World Championship.
