Late last week, Tesla held a special delivery event for the long-awaited Model S Plaid, inviting those that have ordered the car to check it out in person. YouTuber DragTimes was among those that had the chance to take a look at it.
The first few minutes of the video show Elon Musk driving the Model S Plaid up on stage and talking about the various improvements that the automaker has made to it. The YouTuber then jumps into the passenger seat for his first chance to see just how quick the car is.
Tesla’s official claim is that the EV will hit 60 mph in 1.99 seconds but, as reported, that claim is a little controversial. During this test, the Model S Plaid needed 2.74 seconds to hit 60 mph (96 km/h), which didn’t match Tesla’s claims. This time, though, was no doubt impacted by the fact that there were three people in the car and it experienced a little bit of wheel spin.

Later in the video, the YouTuber has the opportunity to speak with some Tesla engineers about the electric motors used by the Model S Plaid. He then takes a look inside the interior of the Plaid which has been thoroughly updated from previous iterations of the Model S. The controversial yoke steering wheel is in there and looks just as impractical to use as we had expected. Brooks also takes a look through the updated software used by the infotainment system.
In the lead-up to the car’s unveiling, Tesla not only announced that it had killed off the planned Plaid+ but it also increased the starting price of the Plaid by $10,000, or 8.2 percent, bringing its MSRP up to $129,900.
