For the 42nd time, Mercedes is sponsoring the aptly-named MercedesCup tennis tournament in Stuttgart, Germany. This year, the winner gets more than just a trophy: they get to walk away with a brand new, all-electric EQS luxury sedan.
To make sure that everyone knows that the EQS is the top prize, Mercedes took the extra step of hanging the car high above the main stadium’s grass courts at TC Weissenhof.
Along with the car (and perhaps out of thematic resonance with its Hyperscreen), the MercedesCup center court will be surrounded on three sides by LED boards that will provide inter rally entertainment and display graphics during events like the coin toss. It will also display a Mercedes animation during the final awards ceremony.

The tournament is the first since 2019 after the 2020 installment was canceled due to COVID-19. Starting on June 7 and running until the 13th, the tournament’s qualifying rounds have been modified this year to welcome players from the French Open to join after they drop out.
Still, the Cup has already announced some players who might attract German (and Canadian) fans. Germany’s two top-ranked players, Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff, have been confirmed as has 19-year-old rising star Jannik Sinner. Three Canadians, Denis Shapovalov, Milos Raonic, and Felix Auger-Aliassime, are also set to participate in the tournament.
Mercedes has not revealed precisely which EQS is being awarded to the winner of the tournament, but we know that the all-electric sedan, which is expected to go on sales this fall, is capable of up to 770 km (479 miles) of range and up to 516 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. A more powerful AMG version is expected shortly.
