The Mk7.5 VW Golf R may not have the ‘look-at-me’ exterior styling of some other potent hot hatches but it is a serious performer. This particular Golf R redefines just how potent it can be.
From the outside, this Golf R looks relatively standard and only stands out thanks to a set of aftermarket wheels and a carbon fiber front splitter. Look at the rear, however, and you will notice a pair of oval-shaped tailpipes, rather than the quad tailpipes that the Golf R usually has.
These tailpipes look suspiciously like those used in various Audi RS models and there’s a very good reason for that. This VW Golf R is no longer powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and actually rocks the 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbocharged mill of an Audi RS3.

Only it isn’t a standard RS3 engine, as it features an aftermarket turbocharger and bespoke engine tuning, so it now churns out an incredible 800 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. Yes, that is more power than a McLaren 720S in a hatchback.
This video doesn’t show any performance testing of the car but does provide us with the opportunity to hear it and see it doing a couple of acceleration runs.
In any case, with so much power, most who are deceived by its sleeper looks and challenge this Golf R are in for a big surprise.
