The new Tesla Model S Plaid has already been shown to be incredibly quick, so imagine what an upgraded, stripped out version with hill climb aero is capable of. That’s exactly what the folks over at Unplugged Performance did, and we get to watch Randy Pobst take it up Pike’s Peak.
The car still uses its stock powertrain, but quite frankly you don’t really need anything more, as with 1,020 hp (1,034 PS / 761 kW) and a claimed 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 1.99 seconds the Model S Plaid is already plenty quick. Some of its upgrades include Unplugged Performance UP-03 wheels on Yokohama slick tires, Bilstein shocks, and a stripped interior with a roll cage, race seats, 6-point harnesses, and a carbon steering wheel (even in the race car they don’t need a yoke).

The car wears the type of extremely aggressive aero that’s customary for Pike’s Peak. Out front there’s a chin splitter extending around a foot and a half off the bumper with dive planes on either end, and in the rear there’s a wing wider than the car itself and nearly at roof height. And it seems like all that aero works, as in the video the Plaid seems to be sticking to the road like glue.
Pobst took Unplugged Performance’s Model 3 up Pike’s Peak last year, but crashed out. Hopefully he will complete the run this year in the faster Model S Plaid on June 27, when the hill climb will take place.
