Veteran automotive journalist Harry Metcalfe had the opportunity to drive the Toyota GR Yaris for the first time in January and he was so impressed that he quickly decided to order one of his own.
Metcalfe was originally told that due to demand for the GR Yaris, he would have to wait until December to take delivery. Fortunately for him, someone who had placed an order at a local dealership ended up pulling out and the journo was able to swoop in and pick up the keys to a red GR Yaris in early March.

The car is featured in the video below and Metcalfe also gets his son to tag along for the ride to talk about some of the pros and cons of using the GR Yaris as a daily driver.
Soon after taking delivery, Metcalfe made a handful of modifications. Most notably, he had the standard black wheels re-painted in the same shade of bronze/gold as the wheels of the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. These freshly-painted wheels transform the look of the hot hatch and make it look even better. He has also tweaked the rear-view mirror that means he can raise the position much higher, adding about 2 cm of visibility. In addition, Metcalfe has decided to keep the rear seats folded down and placed a plastic tray in the rear to carry things around in.
Both Metcalfe and his son are full of praise for the car’s performance and its handling dynamics. Some of their criticisms for the car include the exceptionally high passenger seat and the high levels of road noise.
