As we’re waiting for the reveal of the brand new 2022 Subaru WRX, it is natural to remember the golden era of the Japanese sports sedan. A listing on eBay brings back memories from the time Subaru was racing in the WRC, launching homologation specials like this JDM-imported Impreza WRX STi Spec C from 2005. This rare beast is listed for sale for £28,995 ($40,085) and has the optional Competition Pack with the cool-looking steelies.
If you are not familiar with the second-generation Impreza lineage here is a quick recap. After the original Bugeye (2000-2002) came the facelifted Blobeye (2003-2005) and Hawkeye (2005-2007). The latter is widely considered the most beautiful of the three.

Among the several special editions and homologation specials was the Spec C, which was produced in 1,000 units between 2004 and 2005, available exclusively to the Japanese market. It was 90 kg lighter than the normal STi and came with a more focused suspension setting, beefier brakes, and a few modifications to the engine. Under the bonnet, the turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer engine produced 276 hp (206 kW / 280 PS) and 422 Nm (311 lb-ft) of torque. Power was sent to all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and Subaru’s full-time 4WD system with a Driver Control Centre Differential (DCCD).
The STi Spec C was fitted with 17-inch multispoke alloy wheels finished in gold (silver for the even more focused Spec C RA), but you could also get it with the Competition Pack featuring the aforementioned 16-inch steelies shod in 205/55R16 tires. It also came without ABS brakes and with a manual center differential. This bare-to-bones setup was the ideal base for those who intended to use their Impreza for rallying. Another cool feature besides the double rear spoiler and the signature hood scoop is the WRC-spec roof ventilation to make you feel like Peter Solberg.
Don’t expect creature comforts inside as this spartan edition comes without air-conditioning or electric windows. Other weight-saving measures included thinner glass, an aluminum trunk, and less sound insulation. Destined for the Japanese market, all examples came in right-hand drive.
According to the listing, the odometer reads 60,000 km (37,282 miles). The car was recently imported in the UK from Japan and comes with complete service history, three keys, and original manuals/documents.
If you are interested in acquiring it, this special Impreza is currently located in Solihull, United Kingdom, but the seller suggests it is available for worldwide export.
