BMW’s upcoming facelifted X7 was spotted again, this time on public roads, wearing the least amount of camouflage to date in order to hide the company’s new design direction for their more expensive models, like the new 7-Series and the also upcoming X8.
The mid-life update of the X7 will bring the full-size Bavarian SUV in line with those models, featuring a significantly revised front fascia that includes new front fenders, hood, bumper, and of course headlights that have been the talk of the town with their lower position (and possibly split into two sections) compared to the generously sized kidney grille.

And while that direction doesn’t look like it’s going to win any beauty contests, it’s safer at this point to reserve judgment at least until the swirly wraps come off and we get the full picture. That’s also because the test car pictured here appears to still have plastic moldings on its front end, hiding the true shape of the headlight units and the outline of the kidney grille.
Other new features expected to make their appearance are an updated interior featuring BMW’s newest “curved display” setup, as first seen in the iX and the i4, as well as the introduction of new trim and material options.
We don’t really know what to expect from the facelifted X7 in terms of engine options; BMW will most likely continue to offer the same range of six- and eight-cylinder powertrains but with some updates to make them more efficient and/or more powerful.
There are also rumors that the German carmaker is also working on a new powerful plug-in hybrid unit that will offer an impressive -for a PHEV- driving range in its pure EV mode, but we are still in the dark on this one.
The facelifted BMW X7 is expected to make its debut at the end of this year or in early 2022. Let’s hope that the final product will prove to be less polarizing than the heavily criticized iX.
