Hot on the heels of the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback being unveiled, renderings have hit the web of the forthcoming Civic Type R variant.
Even though the outgoing Civic Type R is still regarded as the best hot hatch on the market, Honda has been hard at work developing the new-generation model for quite some time. In fact, the first camouflaged prototype was filmed in action over a year ago.

To create these renderings, KDesign AG has used the new Civic Hatchback as the base and proceeded to graft on many of the bold styling elements of the outgoing Civic Type R. As such, the car in these renderings features familiar front and rear bumpers and while we’re sure the finished car will look similar to this, we do expect Honda to design new bumpers.
In addition, the car in these renderings has the same rear wing as the 2021 model, even though a prototype recently had a slightly smaller wing with a different design.
Regardless of what changes Honda makes to the new Civic hatch, it seems inevitable that the design of the new Type R won’t be quite as over-the-top as the current model as the design of the new Civic as a whole is much more subdued, not that that is a bad thing.
Powertrain details remain under wraps. It is inevitable that the new Civic Type R will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under but there is some speculation it could also use a hybrid system and might be all-wheel drive.
