AC Cobra Electric Series 1 Gets Improved Specs Ahead Of Launch

The AC Cobra Series 1 Electric is inching closer to production as the model is undergoing the final round of development work.

Originally announced last year, the car is being billed as a faithful recreation of the original AC Cobra but with an electric twist.

Developed with the assistance of Falcon Electric, the model will have an electric motor that develops 308 hp (230 kW / 313 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of peak torque. This setup will enable the roadster to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in approximately four seconds.

The motor will be powered by a 55 kWh battery pack, which is slated to give the car a range of approximately 150 miles (241 km). While battery packs aren’t light, the model is said to tip the scales at just 2,315 lbs (1,050 kg).

Production of the Series 1 Electric was delayed by supply chain issues, but AC Cars used that time to “revisit some of the car’s core principles” and make a number of enhancements. This is clear when you look at the old spec sheet, which originally showed a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 6.7 seconds.

Besides the electric powertrain, the model promises to have “thoroughly modern ride and handling” characteristics. There will also be upgraded brakes, which should make things a bit less hairy.

Production will be limited to 58 units and the company is still charging £138,000 ($189,736 / €161,175) despite the upgrades, which saw the weight, acceleration and handling being honed.
