The 2022 BMW i4 will touch down in Australia in the first quarter of 2022 with prices starting from AU$99,900 (US$74,195) before on-road costs for the i4 eDrive40 and AU$124,900 (US$92,763) for the range-topping i4 M50.
As you may already know, the BMW i4 is based on a flexible vehicle architecture sporting an ultra-low center of gravity that is up to 53 mm lower than a 3-Series sedan. Both the i4 eDrive40 and M50 models to be sold in Australia will be equipped with adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering, M Sport brakes, and 19-inch M Light alloy wheels.

Powering both models is an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The i4 eDrive40 features a single electric motor powering the rear wheels and delivers 335 hp (250 kW). By comparison, the i4 M50 has both front and rear axle electric motors that combine to produce 536 hp (400 kW) and 586 lb-ft (795 Nm) with the Sport Boost function enabled. Without this system, the i4 M50 ordinarily produces 469 hp (350 kW) and 538 lb-ft (729 Nm).
The entry-level model can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.7 seconds while the i4 M50 can reach the same mark in 3.9 seconds. Both models come standard with the BMW IconicSounds Electric system that features various different driving sounds created in partnership with music composer Hans Zimmer. The i40 eDrive50 has a WLTP range of 590 km (366 miles) while the i4 M50 has a quoted range of 510 km (317 miles).
Among the key standard features of the i4 eDrive50 is Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant Plus, front sport seats, Head-Up Display, an automatic tailgate, ambient lighting, Live Cockpit Professional, wireless charging and a 10-speaker audio system. Alongside the more powerful powertrain, the i4 M50 adds lumbar support, front seat heating, BMW Laserlight headlights, a 16-speaker Harman/Kardon surround sound system, electric glass roof, an M Technology Package, M rear spoiler, and metallic paintwork.
