The Grand Tour’s latest special will be released on Amazon Prime on July 30 but before that happens, the trio sat down to discuss some intriguing Scottish phrases in a game called ‘Scot’s That Mean?’.

Those familiar with how Scottish folk talk may find the game pretty easy but for the rest of us, including Clarkson, May, and Hammond, some of the phrases mentioned are rather bizarre.

For example, one phrase mentioned by Hammond is ‘I’ll give ye a skelpit lug’, which May accurately translates as ‘I’ll give you a clip around the ear.’ Another odd one is ‘Haud yer wheesht’ that means shut up. Our personal favorite is ‘Yen bum’s oot the windae’ which means you’re lying or exaggerating.

The Grand Tour’s forthcoming special was filmed in Scotland last year during the coronavirus pandemic and stars Clarkson driving a Lincoln Continental Mark V, May piloting a Cadillac Coupe DeVille, and Hammond driving a Buick Riviera.

While the special won’t feature the hosts visiting a far and away land, Scotland is a very beautiful part of the world and has some utterly gorgeous driving roads. Throughout their adventure, the hosts will tow and sleep in caravans, modify their cars, and attempt to build a bridge across a loch (that’s lake, in case anyone didn’t know).
