The rule at railway crossings is simple: the train always has right of way no matter what – and you definitely don’t want to be nowhere near its path. A driver in Luxembourg recently found that out the hard way.
In a pretty stunning video, a driver can be seen getting out of an SUV that looks like a VW stuck between the barriers at a railway crossing and away from danger mere moments before a commuter train slams into the car.

The video then shows the damage to the car, which is impressively catastrophic, not that that comes as much of a surprise. And although we’re grateful to see that the driver of the car got away, they didn’t entirely escape totally unharmed.
Luxembourg’s RTL reports that police said the driver was injured in the incident. The nature of their injuries wasn’t revealed, though.
Fortunately, none of the 34 passengers who were on the train at the time was hurt, though we imagine that they weren’t having a great morning following the crash. It’s a pretty good reminder of the immense power of trains and why you should always stop when the barriers come down.
Note: As some of you pointed out, while hard to tell from this distance or the aftermath, the engine cover in the open hood shot shows it’s a VW and not an Audi
