Restomod Porsche builder, Gunther Werks, is putting the finishing touches to its first 993-based Speedster Remastered.
We’ve seen realistic-looking CGI renders of the car before, but a recent teaser post on Instagram gives us out first look at the real thing ahead of its official unveil on August 13th.
The lead image shows the Speedster from the rear on a two-post lift and highlights the ducktail spoiler and huge flared rear fenders.
Other images show a quilted sound insulation pad inside the engine bay that’s far too nice to be hidden away, the Inconel exhaust system, center-lock wheel hubs and some exquisite pieces of carbon fiber trim.

Like Gunther’s 400 R coupe, the Speedster features carbon fiber bodywork and a massively wider front track to help kill understeer. But the open car’s windshield is shorter, just like on Porsche’s original 356 Speedsters, or can be omitted from the build altogether at the customer’s request.
A fabric roof is stowed beneath a rear panel that features flying buttresses disguising the extensive chassis modifications and roll cage added to build back in the rigidity lost by having no roof.
Power comes from a 4.0-liter flat-six built by Rothsport Racing that Gunther Werks says will be even more powerful than the 435 hp, 335lb ft (454 Nm) version fitted to the 400R coupe. It drives the rear wheels through an upgraded version of the original Porsche 993 six-speed transmission.
Gunther Werks plans to build juts 25 examples of the 993 Speedster Remastered starting in early 2022. There’s still no word on how much each will cost, but the company’s 400R hardtop lists at $565,000 (£407,000), and it’s a fair bet that the Speedster will command a significant premium.
