The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is the ultimate version of the famed pony car currently on the market but if you’d rather own a modified Mustang from the aftermarket, this example from Hennessey Performance might do the trick.

Dubbed the Legend Edition, it starts out as a regular Mustang GT that has its 5.0-liter Coyote V8 fitted with a 3.0-liter supercharger complete with an air-to-water intercooler. In addition, it benefits from upgraded fuel injectors, a new fuel pump, high-flow air intake, and a catback exhaust. All up, it delivers 808 hp at 7,200 rpm and 677 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm, giving it even more grunt than the 760 hp Shelby GT500.

This added grunt means the Mustang Legend Edition from Hennessey Performance can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds and sprint down the quarter-mile in 10.7 seconds. It will also max out at 200 mph (320 km/h), something that not even the Shelby GT500 can match.

A handful of other modifications have been made. For example, Hennessey equips each Mustang Legend Edition with lowered suspension and beefed-up Brembo brakes. It also puts on a set of 20-inch alloy wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires to ensure the car can put all of its power to the ground.

The car also features a unique graphics package that contrasts the black paint. There is also a carbon fiber front splitter, new side sills, and a rear spoiler with a gurney flap.

Hennessey is building just 50 examples of the Mustang GT Legend Edition. Prices haven’t been announced yet, although the tuning house offers a three-year/36,000-mile warranty.
