The first reviews of the long-awaited 2021 Ford Bronco hit the web last week and while many focused on the vehicle’s off-road credentials, this one from Jason at Engineering Explained discusses what the new Bronco is like to drive on the road.
There’s no doubt that many owners of the new Bronco will take it off-roading. However, for the vast majority of owners, the new Bronco will spend most of its time on the road, meaning it’s important to know how it performs on daily driving duties.

One of the key points discussed in this review relates to the independent front suspension of the Bronco. The Jeep Wrangler has a tried-and-tested solid front end but as Jason explains, the independent front suspension of the Ford brings with it many advantages. For example, it reduces unsprung mass and creates a more compliant ride. In addition, if you hit a bump with one of the wheels, the shock won’t transfer to the other side as it would with the Wrangler.
The utilization of an independent front suspension also allowed Ford to equip the Bronco with rack and pinion steering while the Wrangler has a more old-school recirculating ball steering system. This means that the steering feels much more direct than the Jeep. Independent front suspension also meant Ford could fit a disconnecting front sway bar.
However, not everything is going swimmingly for the new Bronco. Not only was its launch delayed, but just after the first units started arriving at dealerships, it was recently revealed that production has been halted for two weeks due to an undisclosed parts shortage.
