We already know that Jeep is working on a new small SUV to slot below the Renegade, and according to a new report from AutoExpress, this model could be fully electric.
Rumors for an upcoming baby Jeep have been circulating since 2018, even before FCA and PSA merged into Stellantis. According to the latest reports, the new Jeep would sit on the CMP platform (already used in a range of Citroën, DS, Peugeot, and Opel/Vauxhall models), available in both ICE and BEV variants. Production at the Tychy factory in Poland would allegedly start before the end of 2022, with the electric version following in 2023.

Although this sounds like a legitimate plan, AutoExpress suggests that the new model could be electric-only. If the SUV were to be launched before 2025, then it would be based on the new version of the e-CMP platform that is set to arrive in 2022, which means it would be offered with a front-wheel drive layout.
However, if it arrived in 2026 or later, then it could sit on the upcoming STLA Small architecture which will be exclusively available in electric form. The latter is also expected to offer four-wheel drive, thanks to electric motors in both axles, supporting Jeep’s 4×4 heritage, together with an electric range of up to 300 miles (483 km).
The small SUV will not be the only new addition to the Jeep range, as the company is also considering jumping into other segments, keeping their design department busy. Mark Allen, head of exterior design at Jeep, admitted that they are looking to every possible segment for the future lineup. He also confirmed that there is “obviously” room below the Renegade saying “that’s something we’re looking at”.
As for the design of the new baby Jeep, besides having compact dimensions it will probably stay true to the brand’s tradition, featuring the seven-slot grille and rugged styling. As stated by Mark Allen, “We always refer to the very first Jeep when we start a new project”.
