Pictures of the 2022 BMW 2-Series Coupe surfaced nearly a year before its debut and it appears history could be repeating itself.

While that remains to be seen, a picture of a mysterious 3-Series has been posted online and there’s speculation it could be a prototype of the facelifted model.

The image was posted by Wilcoblok and noticed by BMW Blog, but after doing some digging we found it dates back to at least July 3rd when a higher quality image was uploaded by a tuning firm in Vietnam. While that raises some eyebrows, they also suggested it was the facelifted 3-Series.

Regardless of where the picture originated, it shows the car will have new headlights which eschew the cutouts featured on the current model. We can also see an edgier front bumper with a large central intake that features boomerang-shaped accents as well as a honeycomb mesh insert. It’s flanked by vertical air curtains, which are fed air from the modified bumper.

There isn’t much else to see, but the car appears to be equipped with M Performance parts including body stripes and carbon fiber components.

It’s difficult to say whether or not this is the facelifted 3-Series, but previous spy photos have suggested the model will feature a Curved Display like the one found on the i4 and iX. It consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment system running BMW Operating System 8.

BMW has been tight-lipped about the model, but speculation has suggested it will be introduced later this year or early next year.
