The Jeep Gladiator is the latest vehicle to feel the pinch of the prolonged chip shortage that has been impacting car production all year.
Stellantis recently confirmed that it will halt production of the Gladiator at its Toledo South Assembly Plant in Ohio next week. This marks the first time that production of the pickup has been impacted by the shortage.

“Stellantis continues to work closely with our suppliers to mitigate the manufacturing impacts caused by the various supply chain issues facing our industry,” Stellantis spokeswoman Jodi Tinson told The Detroit News.
Interestingly, production of the Jeep Wrangler will continue as it is built at the Toledo North Assembly Plant.
A host of Stellantis models are being impacted by the chip shortage. For example, production of the Dodge Challenger, Charger, and Chrysler 300 at the automaker’s Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario will be paused next week. In addition, production of Chrysler models at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario will halt during the week of August 9. This plant will also idle during the weeks of August 16 and 23 as part of a summer shutdown.
Last week, Stellantis chief executive Carlos Tavares said he expects the semiconductor shortage to continue into next year.
“The semiconductor crisis, from everything I see and I’m not sure I can see everything, is going to drag into ’22 easy because I don’t see enough signs that additional production from the Asian sourcing points is going to come to the West in the near future,” he said.
