Emissions and noise regulations throughout Europe aren’t just slowing killing high-performance combustion engine car,s but they are also making them sound less and less interesting. However, the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 proves that you can still have a sports car in the modern world that sounds incredible and comply with the legislation.
Porsche’s flat-six engines have always sounded great and the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine of the new 911 GT3 is one of its finest yet. While it isn’t significantly different than the engine of the previous-generation GT3, it provides superb response thanks to the independent throttle bodies and delivers an awe-inspiring note.

This clip from YouTuber NM2255 displays the new GT3 being dyno tested and briefly shows the car pumping out a touch over 490 hp and 323 lb-ft (438 Nm) of torque at the rear wheels. That’s very close to Porsche’s official figures of 502 hp and 346 lb-ft (469 Nm) of torque at the crank.
As impressive as the new 911 GT3 is, Porsche will soon release an even more track-focused GT3 RS variant. This model will continue to use a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six but tweaks will be made to the engine so it delivers in excess of 530 hp. The GT3 RS will also come with a host of aerodynamic upgrades but won’t be available with a six-speed manual like the GT3.
