Ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing staged an intriguing race between Max Verstappen and a host of iconic ‘British vehicles’ at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.

Verstappen, the current F1 driver’s championship leader, was driving the championship-winning Red Bull RB7 during the race, a car that won 12 of the 19 races in the 2011 F1 season. He was competing against a double-decker London Bus, a white Ford Transit van, a black cab, a VW Polo kitted out for a festival, and a Ford Focus ST with your typical boy racer behind the wheel.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Dutch F1 race also had to compete against a Spitfire, one of the most iconic airplanes ever manufactured.

All of the vehicles got a head start over Verstappen before he hit the throttle and started to chase after his rivals. It didn’t take Verstappen long to get past his first two rivals, the VW and the black cab. Soon after, he approached the bus but as the driver was swerving across the track, Verstappen had to wait a little before he could safely overtake.

The boy racer driving the Ford Focus ST also put up a good fight and despite going up on two wheels, wasn’t able to keep the Red Bull behind him for very long. Verstappen soon overtook the Transit during a round of pitstops, leaving just the Spitfire to race against the RB7.
