George Harrison’s Mercedes 600 is up for sale. Launched in September of 1963, the Mercedes-Benz 600 has become one of the most renowned automobiles to ever exist and been a favorite of celebrities, heads of state and dictators around the world.
Being the successor of the 300D ‘Adenauer’ and produced in limited numbers, the 600 was the most expensive and technologically advanced model from Mercedes with no expense being spared in its development. Its size, weight, and countless hydraulic-powered amenities led to the creation of the 6.3-liter M100 V8. It breathed through a complex Bosch mechanical fuel injection system, pushed out 247 horsepower, and could haul the 18 foot, 6600 lb behemoth to a top speed of 130 mph (208 km/h) when coupled with its buttery smooth 4 speed automatic.

The Mercedes 600 was built for opulence. Its self-leveling, adjustable air suspension was years ahead of its time and was the dawn of its current “Active Body Control” technology. Every luxury feature onboard was powered by an intricate hydraulic system, including the power windows, power seats, rear reclining seats, and the trunk. Yes, even the trunk could be opened and closed with the touch of a button.
As with most luxury cars of the era, the interior is a well-appointed affair with lashings of wood, metal, and leather throughout. The armchair-like seats ensure that the select few that own them are cradled in luxury as they drive – or, rather, been driven – along.
In 1967 one of the most famous celebrities of the era, George Harrison MBE, lead guitarist of The Beatles, bought himself a brand-new Mercedes-Benz 600 SWB, one of only 2190 ever built.

Harrison’s car was painted in white over a black leather interior, and is adorned by a magnificent walnut trim on the dashboard and most of the interior. There are many period photographs with Harrison in and near the car bearing its original “OLA 600E” registration.
The car was originally a demonstrator car for Mercedes GB before being acquired by Harrison. In March of 2021, it underwent an extensive overhaul by Mercedes specialist John Haynes located in West Sussex.
This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 600 is a guaranteed way to make yourself feel like a celebrity or a state dignitary as you waft along cradled in opulence. This piece of rock and roll history is going under the hammer through CollectingCars.
