A high-performance version of the Mitsubishi Outlander could revive the iconic Evolution name.
A report from Best Car Web in Japan claims that as part of Mitsubishi’s relaunch of the Ralliart brand, it is readying a special Evolution variant of the Outlander plug-in hybrid. It is reported that Mitsubishi was going to reveal the model at the Tokyo Motor Show in October, although the event has now been canceled and instead, the Outlander Evolution may arrive in June 2022.

The Japanese publication fails to state what modifications the high-performance Outlander could undergo to justify its Evolution badge.
The latest-generation 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander was unveiled earlier this year and the car manufacturer recently teased the ‘standard’ PHEV model. Details about this model are limited but Mitsubishi has confirmed that it will be more powerful than its predecessor and have greater battery capacity. We also know that the twin-motor 4WD PHEV system will offer improved fuel efficiency. If the Outlander does indeed get a performance-focused Evolution variant, we would expect it to have significantly more power, even though it is highly unlikely that it will offer the kind of performance to rival Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution models of yesteryear.
When Mitsubishi announced the revival of the Ralliart brand in May, it released a teaser image of a Triton / L200 equipped with a host of Ralliart parts, leading to speculation that it would probably be the first model that Mitsubishi launches under the revived brand. Mitsubishi has also confirmed that it will return to motorsports but hasn’t said in what series’ it will compete.
