It hasn’t even been two weeks since BMW unveiled the all-new new 2 Series coupe, but already we’re seeing one out in the wild. The photos were taken by CarScoops reader Michael, who came across the car on the streets of Munich.

The car has no badging other than the BMW roundels but based on the front and rear fascia and the fact that it’s in Europe, it appears to be either the base 220i or the diesel 220d.

Should it be the former, that would mean it’s powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 181 hp (135 kW / 184 PS) and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque. If it’s the latter, it would be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel with a mild hybrid system making 187 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. For comparison, the Euro-market M240i xDrive, whose purple launch color this car actually wears, is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six making 369 hp (275 kW / 374 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.

Going back to this car though, the front end actually looks quite handsome with its traditional headlights and normal-sized kidneys, especially in 220 guise where it’s devoid of the large triangular intakes. However, the rear end still leaves a bit to be desired, mainly due to those messy taillights. The Thundernight Metallic paint on the other hand appears to be even better in real life, with a nice depth to it that wasn’t discernible from the press photos.

Hopefully in the near future, we can see some of the 2 Series’ M variants in the metal.

Thanks to Michael for sharing the photos with us!
