New details about the forthcoming BMW M4 CSL have surfaced online and if they turn out to be true, we could be in for something rather special.
BMW has been spied testing a new variant of the M4 on a handful of occasions in recent months and a new report claims that the car will pump out 540 hp from a modified version of the standard model’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder. It will also be sold exclusively in rear-wheel drive, according to sources, differentiating it from the highest-performing M4 Competition that has an xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The Bimmer Post forum also asserts that the M4 CSL will feature an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard and won’t be available with a six-speed manual like lesser variants. It will also launch with bespoke 19-inch and 20-inch wheel options, M bucket seats as standard with racing bucket seats an optional extra, and unique M headlights. The car will also apparently receive a host of carbon fiber parts and an Alcantara steering wheel.
Prototypes that have been spied at Germany’s Nurburgring track have caught the eye thanks to a handful of aerodynamic upgrades. For example, one of them featured an enlarged front splitter and unique rocker panels. It was also equipped with a unique rear diffuser and a large lip spoiler on the trunklid.
If the car does indeed rock a CSL badge, it’s fair to assume that it will also weigh slightly less than the standard model. The report claims it will be produced from July 2022 through to February 2023.
