A few months ago, journalists had the opportunity to test out the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 and now, Matt Farah has had the chance to drive the all-new GT3 Touring.
What makes the GT3 Touring featured in this review special is that it has been fitted with the available six-speed manual transmission. By comparison, all other 992 GT3 reviews have been for cars with the available dual-clutch PDK.
Farah immediately says that the six-speed manual transmission of the 911 GT3 Touring might just be the finest stick shift on the market. Interestingly, he points out that it has near-identical gear ratios to the 718 Cayman GT4, a gearbox that has been criticized as having very long gearing. The difference with the GT3 is that the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine has enough horsepower and torque to overcome the long gearing.

The car featured in this review was also fitted with regular steel brakes, rather than the available carbon ceramics. Farah notes that this is the first Porsche GT car he has ever driven without carbon ceramics but says the standard brakes are more than adequate for street driving.
When the new 911 GT3 Touring was unveiled last month, it was revealed that residents in California wouldn’t be able to purchase it with the six-speed manual because of an outdated test procedure being used by the California Highway Patrol. However, Porsche managed to come to an agreement with regulators, allowing stick shift GT3s to be sold in the state.
