As the Aston Martin Valkyrie nears the production line, the British automaker recently brought one of its prototypes along to the Goodwood Festival of Speed and while there, Jack Rix from Top Gear had the chance to ride shotgun in the insane track-focused hypercar.
Aston Martin didn’t push the Valkyrie to its limits up the hillclimb as it is still ironing out some aspects of the car. Nevertheless, test driver Darren Turner did unleash some of its performance with Rix in the passenger’s seat and it’s quite clear that the Valkyrie is just as insane as we had all hoped.

The prototype that Aston Martin brought along didn’t feature the active suspension system of the eventual production car, so it wasn’t particularly graceful along some of the bumpier sections of the hillclimb. Nevertheless, we can see that it builds up speed at an incredible rate and despite all the downforce that it generates, it is quite easy to spin up the rear wheels and briefly lose traction.
While this is technically a road car, it appears to drive much more like a race car. The cabin is largely free of any sound deadening and the gearbox violently shifts through the gears.
Found at the heart of the Valkyrie is a special 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 developing by Cosworth that pumps out 1,000 hp and revs to over 11,000 rpm. It could very well be the finest-sounding street car ever designed and will no doubt please the 150 people that were lucky enough to order one.
